Decades ago my Dad kept a small spiral notebook of every family adventure we took. I still have them. They date back to the late 1960's. If the house was on fire, they would be one of the things I would grab. My folks raised 6 kids on an iron worker's income and had the guts to take 6-8 weeks off with no pay and head to the far corners of North America. Adventure was a priority. This is one of the things I am most proud of about them. My bicycle trip will be following in those tracks that were laid down for me a long time ago.
